Suhu udara yang ekstrim dingin bagi sebagian orang memang sangat merepotkan. Apalagi yang tidak biasa dengan kondisi “dibawah nol”.
Dua hari lalu saya lupa merapatkan jendela depan saat berangkat ngampus. Saat sore pulang masuk rumah, weleh, jendela sudah nggak bisa digerakkan lagi. Geser buka/tutup sudah nggak bisa. Seharian itu memang suhu sekitar -20 an lah (celsius).
Esokan harinya saat pagi mau berangkat ngampus, pintu susah dibuka. Ternyata bagian atas pintu membeku.
Kata berita cuaca, suhu malam itu mendekati -30 C. Yah pantesan deh.
Di berita-berita cuaca yang beredar, selalu ada istilah temperature, windchill, dan realfeel. Ketiganya didefinisikan secara populer di Yahoo!Answers adalah sebagai berikut:
Temperature is well defined and using World Meteorological Organization standards, a very uniform method used around the world to obtain temperatures.
Windchill is a derived or artificial temperature that tries to approximate a temperature that is equivalent to heat transfer rates of a temperature with wind verses a temperature with no wind.
Realfeel® is believed to be a similar temperature to windchill but it is not known how this temperature is derived since the company that calculates this temperature does not publish the method it uses to calculate it.
Both windchill and Realfeel® temperatures have no meteorological significance. The only significance is that it gives an indication of the rate of cooling that a substance (in this case the human body) that is warmer than the air temperature has in a given wind flow.
Begitulah, tergantung kita mau ikut sebut yang mana, toh sama aja, dinginnya membekukan juga…
